Why One Minute Briefs Are My Favourite Creative Habit
Creativity can feel overwhelming sometimes. Staring at a blank page or overthinking an idea is no fun. That’s why I love One Minute Briefs (OMB) - it’s the ultimate creative shortcut and I am so glad to have found it back in November.
The concept is simple: One Rule. One Minute. Create an Ad.
Every day, OMB posts a brief on X / Twitter (find them here). Your challenge? Come up with a quick, clever idea in just 60 seconds. There’s no time for overthinking, just pure instinctive creativity.
What Makes OMB Brilliant
It’s not about creating a polished masterpiece. Instead, OMB focuses on the core of any great ad: the idea. The short time frame forces you to strip away unnecessary fluff and communicate the message clearly and effectively.
In the few months I’ve been participating, I’ve already seen my creative muscles grow. Plus, I’ve even won a few briefs (You’ll spot a few of my winning entries in the header image - shameless plug, I know!)
Beyond the personal wins, I love how energising the process is. It’s fast, fun, and the perfect way to kick-start your day with a cuppa in hand (today though it was a hot chocolate when I saw I’d won in the marshmallow brief - what a great start to the week).
A Thriving Creative Community
The OMB community, affectionately known as the OMBLES, are a diverse and supportive group of creatives worldwide. Seeing how differently people respond to the same brief is inspiring - some entries are hilarious, others thought-provoking, but all of them showcase the power of instinctive creativity.
OMB, plus many of the OMBLES, retweet submissions, which means your ideas are seen by thousands everyday. It’s a rare platform where everyone, from beginners to seasoned pros, can shine.
More Than Just a Challenge
Beyond the daily briefs, OMB hosts workshops, talks, and events, creating a thriving hub for creatives. Whether you’re looking to learn, network, or just have fun, OMB has something for everyone.
Why You Should Try It
If you’re looking to build your portfolio, sharpen your skills, or simply spark your creativity, give OMB a go. It’s a low pressure and incredibly rewarding challenge and it only takes one minute of your day. Just make sure to get your entry in by 6pm, and if you can, retweet the original post to share it with your friends.
Grab a pen, set a timer, and jump in. Who knows? You might surprise yourself - and I’ll be cheering you on. Happy designing!
